Afghan Coats
The Afghan coat has been worn for centuries across Afghanistan: a sheepskin or suede coat with the fleece turned inward and dense embroidery along the collar, cuffs and front. Aql&Nafs makes it the way it was always made — by hand, one coat at a time — and brings it to London.
Every coat in this collection is made to order. Our heritage pieces are hand-embroidered by women artisans in Afghanistan using Ghazni stitching passed down through generations; a single coat can take weeks to finish. Our contemporary coats take the same silhouettes into suede, cashmere-wool and Mongolian shearling with a cleaner, minimal finish.
How to recognise a real Afghan coat. Look for embroidery that is stitched, not printed; natural sheepskin or goat suede rather than synthetic pile; slight variation from piece to piece. No two of our coats are identical — the irregularities are the signature of handwork.
Sizing and fit. Most coats are cut generously to layer over knitwear. Each product page has a size chart; custom lengths and sleeve adjustments are available on request.

Brush the fleece gently, air the coat after wear and keep it away from direct heat. Use a specialist suede or leather cleaner for marks. Never machine wash.
